ANDREA FERRARI

Saxophones and clarinets | composer and educator

Eb clarinet, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto sax, baritone sax, bass sax, Eb tubax

Andrea Ferrari is a musician whose creative approach has consistently shaped every stage of his artistic journey. He does not view himself merely as a performer, but as a creator of musical languages. His work is driven by a constant pursuit of personal expression, navigating between jazz, improvisation, and original composition. His musical voice is immediately recognizable—defined by a deep, distinctive sound and a rhythmic language that marks a strong, original, and coherent identity. A virtuoso of multiple instruments—including E-flat clarinet, soprano clarinet, bass clarinet, alto, baritone, and bass saxophones, as well as the rare E-flat tubax—Andrea has transformed multi-instrumentalism into a powerful expressive and compositional tool.

His performances go far beyond technical skill, standing out for their intensity, timbral exploration, and a sonic storytelling that crosses genres and traditions. His musical education developed between classical and jazz traditions. After earning his diploma and completing advanced studies in classical clarinet, he obtained a second-level academic degree in Jazz Music, with a focus on performance and composition. This dual path has greatly enriched his artistic vision, enabling him to explore writing, improvisation, and interaction with contemporary musical languages. Over the years, Andrea has created and taken part in a wide range of ensembles with diverse stylistic roots. These include: Quartetto Martesana, Officina Sonora, Quartet Project, L.I.C., Arioso Ensemble, QM 5tet, NovoTono, JW Orchestra, Orchestra Maniscalchi, Mixiland Jazz Band, Roger Rota OCTO, Big Band One, Andrea Ferrari Trio, and Andrea Ferrari 4tet.

His performances have brought him to some of the most prestigious venues in Italy and abroad, such as the Filodrammatici Theater in Milan, Bluenote Milan, Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, La Fenice Theater in Venice, the Roman Theater in Verona, and the PAC in Milan. He has appeared in major festivals including Bergamo Jazz, Brianza Open Jazz, and Il Giardino delle Esperidi. On the international stage, Andrea has been invited as an Italian representative to several editions of ClarinetFest, the renowned global event organized by the International Clarinet Association (ICA), with editions held in Belgium, Texas (USA), Hungary, China, and other countries. These experiences have allowed him to share his sonic research and engage in creative exchange with leading clarinetists from around the world, in a spirit of dialogue and innovation.

Alongside his artistic career, Andrea has always cultivated a strong pedagogical dimension. He teaches clarinet, saxophone, and ensemble music, and has developed educational paths focused on improvisation and creativity, with a particular emphasis on sound awareness as an expressive tool. His project, Creative Music Lab, is an open-form workshop where instrumental practice meets free exploration, instant composition, and structured creativity.

As both an artist and educator, Andrea Ferrari embodies the figure of a contemporary musician—rooted in tradition, yet constantly evolving toward new forms of expression.
